Who We Are

The Southwest Liturgical Conference (SWLC) is a liturgical organization comprising the twenty-eight Roman Catholic Dioceses of Region X and Region XIII of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC) in the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. Founded in 1962, the SWLC reflects the rich Catholic heritage of the Southwest present in richly diverse multicultural, urban, and rural communities.

Our purpose

Our purpose is to foster the ongoing renewal of the liturgy as expressed in the "Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy" and the significant liturgical documents of the Church. In collaboration with all Bishops of Regions X and XIII, diocesan directors of worship and other liturgical leaders, the SWLC provides opportunities for education, formation, and networking. As a precursor to next summer’s 2015 SWLC Hispanic Pastoral Musicians Conference (June 25-27, 2015) hosted by the Diocese of Las Cruces, NM, the SWLC is proud to sponsor and support the neighboring Diocese of El Paso's Music Ministry Summer Intensive, offered through Tepeyac Institute. The program will be held August 16–28, 2014, and features tracks for both English- and Spanish-speaking constituents. It is coordinated by associate SWLC board member Peter Kolar, who will be joined by guest instructor and composer Dr. Steven Janco of St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN. Closing liturgies for each track will be presided by El Paso Bishop Mark J. Seitz.

The Music Ministry Summer Intensive is designed to heighten liturgical awareness among pastoral musicians in the Diocese of El Paso while building enthusiasm for the upcoming 2015 Hispanic Pastoral Musicians Conference.

The SWLC congratulates and wishes the Diocese of El Paso the very best in its ongoing formational efforts, and the Diocese of Las Cruces as it prepares for the 2015 HPMC.
