Diocesan Support |

Foreword |
|
|
|
The work of the Southwest
Liturgical Conference can only continue through the active participation of
its member dioceses. We feel fortunate to have two representatives from
most of the dioceses of Region 10 represented on the Board of
Directors. Some dioceses have not been able to participate fully in
recent years due to staffing shortages, but we encourage their participation
even on a limited basis.

The SWLC pays the full
expenses of stipend, travel, housing and food for four major speakers at each
study week. This provides financial support for the host diocese and
allows for the invitation of some outstanding presenters at this annual
educational event. |
|
|
|
The SWLC has designated a
tithe of its resources annually to provide scholarships to the study week for
participants who might not otherwise be able to attend. Applications
for these scholarships are available from each Diocesan Office of Worship or
Liturgical Commission within the SWLC region. |

|
While the Study Week is
intended to benefit the entire region, the hosting diocese stands to reap the
greatest benefits from the conference. They have the opportunity to
provide an outstanding conference within their diocesan boundaries which will
attract some of the most prestigious names in liturgical work. The
majority of the conference registrants would be expected to come from the
hosting diocese. The opportunities for quality liturgical prayer, study
and reflection and interaction with other persons in liturgical ministry can
be a source of renewed enthusiasm for the work of liturgical ministers within
the diocese. In addition, any profits realized from the study week are
shared equally by the host diocese and the SWLC; many
dioceses have realized considerable profits from drawing a large attendance
to the conference and have used these funds to support other liturgical work
within their diocese. |

|
The SWLC, in cooperation
with music publishers, will fund the commissioning of new bilingual music for
liturgical celebration which we have identified as priority needs within our
region. We will also pursue the production of educational materials for
use in liturgical formation and commit some portion of our financial resources
for this work. |
|
|
|
The SWLC Board encourages
the full participation by all bishops of our region and all board members at
every study week. Those bishops and board members who need financial
assistance in attending these meetings will find the SWLC ready to assist
them. |

The SWLC has historically
been generous in providing support for the FDLC meeting when it has been
hosted by Region 10. |
