David Anderson In addition to serving as Workshop Coordinator for GIA Publications, Inc., David Anderson serves as Director of Music and Liturgy at Ascension Parish in Oak Park, IL. David’s outreach of music in the parish embraces a broad variety of ages and levels of musical ability. David’s formal education includes theological studies at Catholic Theological Union and Loyola University of Chicago, a Master of Church Music degree from Concordia University and advanced choral studies at Westminster Choir College. David is becoming a well-known speaker at many national conferences and is frequently asked to prepare the liturgy and music for various conferences and for retreats. David has consulted and authored materials for Liturgy Training Publications (including Handbook for Church Music for Weddings) and served as an editor of GIA’s hymnal RitualSong. For the past six years on the first Friday of each month, David has prepared and coordinated a Taizé prayer at Ascension Parish that brings together over 500 people from many Christian traditions. Rev. Anthony Dao, O.P. Rev. Anthony Dao, ordained a Dominican in 1982, serves as pastor of Our Lady of Lavang Church and as Vicar for Vietnamese Catholics in the Diocese of Galveston-Houston. Judy Dioszegi Judy Dioszegi is a designer from Highland Park, IL whose work in banners, vestments, mobiles and tapestries are known throughout the United States. She has worked over twenty years in the design and production of art in fabric for churches, corporate atrium spaces, hospitals, wellness and fitness centers and restaurants. She has been awarded two International Achievement Awards in design by Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) and two Bene Awards from Ministry and Liturgy. Richard Gaillardetz,
Ph.D. Dr. Richard R. Gaillardetz is an associate professor of systematic theology at the University of St. Thomas School of Theology in Houston, TX. He has a BA in humanities from the University of Texas, and MA in biblical theology from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and an MA and Ph. D. in systematic theology from the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Gaillardetz has published numerous articles and two books: Witnesses to the Faith (Paulist, l992) and Teaching with Authority (The Liturgical Press, l997). His third book, Transforming our Days: Graceful Living in a Technological Age, will be available in the Spring of 2000 from Crossroad. Dr. Gaillardetz has served the church as a parish coordinator of religious education, campus minister, liturgist and associate diocesan director of adult education. Cynthia Ann Goerig Cynthia Goerig earned a Bachelor of Music in Applied Organ at the University of Texas in Austin and an MA in Theology / Liturgy at St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN. She is vice-president of the SWLC Board of Directors and presently serves as liturgy coordinator and organist at St. Philip the Apostle Parish in El Campo, TX. Kathleen Hughes, R.S.C.J. Kathleen Hughes, a Religious of the Sacred Heart, holds a doctorate in Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame. She is currently the provincial of the United States Province of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Prior to August, 1999, she was Professor of Liturgy at the Catholic Theological Union at Chicago where she served as Vice President and Academic Dean from 1992-1995. She is past president of the North American Academy of Liturgy and has served on the advisory committees of the U.S. Bishops' Committee on the Liturgy and the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL). For nineteen years Kathleen has taught, written and lectured about liturgy and sacraments. The titles of her publications reflect a broad range of interests including sacraments, language, women and worship, presiding, preaching, feasts and seasons, the liturgical movement, the RCIA, patterns of prayer, liturgy and justice, and active liturgical participation. Dolores
Martinez, Ph.D. Dr. Dolores Martinez has served the Archdiocese of San Antonio as Director of the Office of Worship since September of 1993. She previously held both parish and diocesan positions in Lubbock, Austin, and Duncanville (Dallas) in liturgy and music. She coordinated the choir for the papal visit to San Antonio in 1987 and composed and arranged some of the music for that celebration. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University and is a nationally recognized speaker representing such organizations as Oregon Catholic Press, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and the North American Forum on the Catechumenate. Rev. Bryan
Massingale Rev. Bryan Massingale is a priest of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. He holds a doctorate in moral theology from the Alphonsianum (Rome). He is a professor of moral theology at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee and a faculty member in the Institute for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University in New Orleans. He is a noted author and lecturer in the areas of social ethics, Catholic Social Teaching, liberation theologies and racial justice. His recent work applies Catholic social thought to the issues of racial reconciliation, affirmative action, health care restructuring, and environmental justice. His professional activities include being an ethical consultant to the Milwaukee AIDS Project; he serves as a member of the Milwaukee Archdiocesan Council of Priests, the Archdiocesan Commission on Sexual Abuse by Religious Personnel, and the Sub-Committee on Formation and Curriculum of the United States Bishops' Committee for the Diaconate; he is an active member of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus and the Black Catholic Theological Symposium. Mary McLarry Mary McLarry is director of the Office of Worship in the Diocese of Ft. Worth. She has served on the SWLC Board since l971 and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. Ph.D. Nathan D. Mitchell, Ph. D., is associate director for research at the Center for Pastoral Liturgy, University of Notre Dame. He has an M.A. in Religious Studies from Indiana University (l971) and a Ph. D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame (1978). His books include Cult and Controversy, Mission and Ministry, Eucharist as Sacrament of Initiation, and Real Presence: The Work of Eucharist. He also writes “The Amen Corner” in each issued of the journal Worship. In l998, the North American Academy of Liturgy presented him its Berakah Award. Rev. James Moroney Rev. James Moroney, a priest of the diocese of Worcester, is Executive Director of the NCCB Secretariat for the Liturgy. Past chairman of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions, Father Moroney has pursued theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Pontifical Liturgical Institute at San Anselmo and the Catholic University of America. A frequent lecturer in liturgy throughout the United States, Fr. Moroney is general editor of the revised Lectionary for Mass recently approved by the NCCB and confirmed by the Holy See. O.P. Adrian Dominican Sister Lois Paha is the Worship Office Director for the Diocese of Austin with more than thirty-five years experience in ministry. Before coming to Austin, Sister Lois served as an elementary educator and administrator, Vocation Director for her community, and Lay Ministry Coordinator at the parish level. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Theology/Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame. She also received an M.A. in Teaching Religion from St. Michael’s College, Winooski, Vermont. Rev. Juan Sosa,
M.Div., M.Th., M.A. Born in Havana, Cuba, Fr. Juan Sosa came to the United States in l961 and was ordained for the Archdiocese of Miami in l972. He has served as Associate Director of Religious Education, Co-director of the Permanent Diaconate Program, Chair of the Committee on Popular Piety and a member of the presbyteral council in Miami. Currently, Fr. Sosa is pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and Executive Director of the Ministry of Worship and Spiritual Life for the Archdiocese; he also serves as Adjunct Senior Lecturer at South Florida Seminaries. Fr. Sosa is a founding member of the Instituto de Liturgia Hispana, Inc., and served as its president from l982-88 and continues to serve on the Advisory Board. He served for six years as an advisor to the Bishops’ Committee on the Liturgy and is presently a member of its Subcommittee for Hispanic Liturgy; he also serves as consultant to Oregon Catholic Press. Ph.D. Dr. Paul Westermeyer is Professor of Church Music at Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a renowned scholar and musician. He is the author of Let Justice Sing (The Liturgical Press, 1998), Te Deum: The Church and Music and The Church Musician (Augsburg Fortress) and countless articles and reviews. He presently serves as the President of the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada and has held leadership positions in the American Guild of Organists, the American Society of Church History and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians as well as many other organizations.
