Breaking News ------ More Workshops & Concert
Last minute arrangements make it
possible to offer SEVEN ADDITIONAL WORKSHOPS lead by nationally-known
composers. And through the graciousness and generosity of Oregon
Catholic Press, World Library and GIA Publications, we will have a
CONCERT Thursday evening combining the talents of Mary Haugen, Peter
Rubalcava, Rudy Lopez, Eliasar Cortés and others.
To

1-9 – Thursday, 2:00 p.m.
Experience Flor y Canto, Segunda Edicón -Rodlfo Lopez, (OCP)
This workshop is a presentation for the new Hispanic hymnal,
Flor y Canto, Segunda Edición. Participants will be introduced
to new material that is rich in ethnic diversity and musical style.
This workshop is directed to those who are familiar with Flor y Canto
and those who are looking for a new Hispanic Hymnal for their
worshing community.
Rudy has been a Director of Music
at several parishes in the Los Angeles area, as well as a composer,
soloist, and arranger. He is a graduate of California State University
at Los Angeles where he completed a Bachelor in Music Composition.
Currently, he is a music editor for Oregon Catholic Press.

– Thursday, 2:00 p.m. Liturgy Preparation Involves Coordinating the
Efforts of Many – Mary Haugen (GIA)
Liturgy is a sacrament of unity with God and with one
another. Come explore how this unity begins long before the Greeting of
the Mass, as presiders, litugists, music ministers and other litugical
ministers cooperate to prepare celebrations that respect the universal
Church’s guidelines and are also sensitive to the needs of the local
community.
Marty Haugen is a liturgical composer from Eagan,
Minnesota. For the past fifteen years, he has presented workshops
nationally and internationally for the Roman Catholic and Protestant
liturgical ministers. Mary has over 250 separate titles published
through GIA on more than twenty recorded collections.

– Thursday, 3:34 p.m. Taizé Prayer – David Anderson (GIA)
Have you ever experienced the beauty and simplicity of the
music of Taizé? Explore ways to incorporate this ecumenical prayer into
your community. Discover why people are drawn to this contemplative
prayer experience and discuss the ecumenical implications for unity and
reconciliation.
David is workshop Coordinator for
GIA Publications, Inc. as well as a parish Director of Music and
Liturgy. His formal education includes theological studies, music and
choral studies.

Como Escoger El Repertorio Para La
Liturgia – Eleazar Cortés (OCP)
Eleasar nos trae sus
dones y su precia en la musica de mariachi, especialménte para la
liturgia. Vengan a’ explorar modos de escoger musica para la liturgia:
salmos, acclamaciónes cantos y mas!
For more than thirty years, Elezar has composed music for
musicals, movies, television, orchestras, mariachi and folk groups and
for the St. Cecelia Concert series competition, which began in November
1992. Currently Eleazar is the Director of Music at the historical
Mission in San Juan Bautista, California.

Friday, 10:45 a.m. The Role of Children & Youth in Multi-Generational
Worship-Marty Haugen (GIA)
Faith is passed on through the sharing of our stories,
songs, traditions, memories, values and visions. Worship is a central
place for faith formation. Children and youth belong in our
gatherings, even more, they should be included and involved in our
songs, actions and ministries. How can we develop liturgies that
celebrate every generation and welcome, include, engage and inspire the
youngest to the oldest?

–Friday, 3:45 p.m. Music for the Initiation Rites in the
Hispanic Church – Peter Rubalcava (WLP)
Baptisms, First communions, Confirmations and the RCIA are
graced moments for the Hispanic family and the Church. We will explore
the rituals, the challenges presented within a cultural context and
offer suggestions for building a strong parish repertoire to help
communites celebrate these important moments in the life of the Hispanic
Church.
Pedro Rubalcava is a nationally
known clinician, pastoral musician, composer and recording artist,
currently serving as director of Liturgy at Our Lady of Mount Carmel
parish in San Diego. He is also a founding member of the Liturgical
formation Team to the Spanish-Speaking in the Diocese of San Diego.

Saturday, 10:45 a.m. Music for rites of Passage
in the Hispanic Church – Peter Rubalcava (WLP)
Quince Años, Weddings and Funerals offer unique challenges
to how a community celebrates rites of passage. We will examine the
reality of parish life in our Hispanic communities and how we can
accompany these important moments and rituals with musical prayer.
